Yat Muk Studio is one of Hong Kong's leading advocates for the revival of traditional woodworking, founded in 2019 by carpenter Ken Chow. Having apprenticed across Taipei, Taichung and Jilin, Chow devoted himself fully to the craft, refining his techniques through rigorous training and cross-cultural research. The studio's name — Yat Muk (一木) — carries the dual meaning of "a lifetime" and "woodwork," reflecting his aspiration to create furniture built to endure for generations. Through the studio he practises, teaches and researches in equal measure, championing the traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery rooted in centuries of craftsmanship. At a time when Hong Kong's timber industry had largely faded, Ken Chow has placed Yat Muk at the forefront of a renewed appreciation for the craft — blending authenticity, scholarship and contemporary relevance to keep woodworking alive.
